KATH BROWN

Kath was born in Cardiff in 1926. She was apprenticed to a local pharmacist and graduated as a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Cardiff University. She worked for five years in retail pharmacy and was attracted to MMS through a poster on the church door. After first profession she went to Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi, India where she set up and was in charge of the pharmacy for 8 years. After this Kath went to Nangina Hospital in Kenya where she did the same thing but was asked to return to England after two years and join communities in South Shields and then in Osterley. After nine years she returned to Nangina for another fourteen years, at first in charge of the pharmacy and then also as hospital administrator until this was taken over by a Kenyan. Kath found that her apprenticeship, during the Second World War stood her in good stead for setting up pharmacies in India and Kenya. Now Kath, back in England is promoting a mission and raising funds through giving mission appeals in parishes in this country. She is also very active in working for justice, especially for the poorest countries in Africa.
