MISSION APPEALS

Several Medical Mission Sisters in England spend a number of weekends each year in parishes giving mission appeals. We appreciate the possibility of getting to know the Church in England and Wales better, especially those of us who are from another part of the world or have spent a considerable time in other parts of the world. We work together with missionary sisters of 15 other institutes in England and Wales, putting all funds together and sharing them out at the end of the year according to the number of appeals given.

Appeals are made:

• to tell parishioners about mission
• to challenge them with the responsibility of all Christians to be involved in mission
• to ask for their financial support. Most members of the societies giving the appeals are unable, because of the kind of work they do, to earn adequate salaries to support themselves.

The bishops have requested that all parishes agree to host the annual mission appeal and these are administered by the Catholic Missionary Union
