Bernadette, from South India but who has been for the last few years here in Acton at our International headquarters, returned to India at the end of last year. She had previously been in a hospital mission in North India for most of her time as a Medical Mission Sister. Bernadette worked as a laboratory technician and taught for many years in Kurji Holy Family Hospital in Patna. She took a few years working in rural areas in various places, for example in Dhibra, one of our earlier outreach centres from Kurji holy family hospital and in Maharashtra, in a place called Jamkhed with MMS in a remot village among the people These were in the seveties, a time whem we were trying to be part of life with people away from hospital sistuations. Those were very rewarding times for her.
In London, Bernadette played a full part in local parish life, visiting sick and elderly people, working in a centre for homeless people (see picture above) and joining our work for justice. We will miss her!
